Blueberry Hill 5K Relay Instructions
Not quite ready to run the whole 5K solo? Or, why run alone when you can bring the squad?
Create a 5K Relay Team and tackle the race together! Round up a neighbor, that friend who "used to run in college," or anyone who's been looking for a low-key reason to join the fun — then split up the laps to divide and conquer.
What do you mean by a 5K Relay Team?
Our 5K race is a 3-lap circular course. Create a team of 2-3 people and choose which lap each team member runs (lap 1, 2 or 3). For example…
Team of 3:
Person A runs lap 1
Person B runs lap 2
Person C runs lap 3
Team of 2 (one option!)
Person A runs lap 1
Person B runs lap 2
Person A runs lap 3
Team of 2 (another option!)
Person A runs laps 1-2
Person B runs lap 3
(or vice versa)
BRING YOUR OWN BATON!
Each relay team should create and bring their own ‘baton’ to the race. This is where you can be creative, ridiculous or practical. (Jamie pushed a lawnmower last year…) Keep in mind that this is something you will be running with and will help distinguish you and your relay team from other 5K runners.
Guidelines for Batons
Your baton can be anything you want to run with. It could be something you wear, carry, push or pull. Your baton could be a bracelet, a hat, a wooden spoon, a balloon, a basketball or a stroller, for example. Modify or decorate it to your liking.
Are there any restrictions? Good question. Your baton…
Must be something tangible to pass off to your teammate
Should be reasonably safe to run with
Must NOT impede other runners
Must NOT make noise loud enough to disturb neighbors (no air horns please)
Where is the exchange zone? The exchange zone is the part of the course where relay team members will pass off their baton to the next runner. The exchange zone will be at the start line and marked accordingly. The next ‘on deck’ team member should be at the exchange zone ready to receive their teammate’s baton.
How about awards?
Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams AND for batons that are:
Most Quirky
Most Unlikely
Most Blueberriest
How much does a Relay Team cost?
The registration fee for a team is $30 (total). Complete the Relay Team Registration Form and indicate the names of each team member. Only submit ONE registration form per team.
