House Show in Forest Heights

I primarily perform on keyboard these days, but 20 years ago I regularly played solo shows on guitar.

On Sunday, March 8, I’m switching back to guitar for an evening and dusting off some of the original tunes and cover songs I used to sing. The show will be at The Music Box, Claire Campbell’s rental at 355 Rivermont Road, and I’ll have a guest or two joining. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show will start at 7

Bring your own drinks, and if the weather is nice, feel free to bring a picnic dinner or snacks to eat on the back deck or patio before the show. (Claire and Mike have a nice view of the river.)

Benefiting Project Safe

The show will be a fundraiser for Project Safe, which works to end domestic violence in Athens and beyond. The non-profit’s long-time Executive Director, Joan Prittie, lives in Forest Heights, and I’m hoping we can show her and the organization a lot of love that night.

There are only 40 seats available, and I’d love to fill them with neighborhood folks. I won’t promote the show beyond the Forest Heights community until the end of the week — or not at all, if I don’t need to!

To claim seats, send $25 each via Venmo (@DWASteam10) or PayPal (brt.king@gmail.com or paypal.me/DWASteam10). Be sure to include a note with your name(s) and “House show.”

Team 10 “stars": Lucille and me!

All proceeds will go to Project Safe, as part of their annual Dancing with the Athens Stars event, which takes place on Saturday, March 21. My daughter, Lucille, and I will be the “stars” of Team 10, performing a tap routine with Catherine Huff of DanceFX.

If you want to learn more about what Project Safe and Joan do on a day-to-day basis, read “Why I’m Dancing for Project Safe.” And if you can’t make the house show or DWAS, please consider making a direct donation. (If you choose Team 10, each dollar counts as a vote in the Audience Favorite Award.)

OR…

I’m doing another fundraiser with Hampton Park resident, Jacob Wenzka, who is the illustrator and creative partner in four children’s books I’ve written. You can find more details about the books and children at Project Safe here. But in short, the cost of printing one book is roughly $10. Separate from the show reservations, every $20 I receive via Venmo or Paypal with the note “book,” will cover the cost of a book for a child that passes through Project Safe, and the rest will go into the Project Safe coffers as a vote for Team 10.

Thanks, and I hope to see you soon!
