How-to Demonstrations: Festival Schedule & Locations

Chef Caitlin gave a canning demonstration last year.

During the afternoon of the Forest Heights Blueberry Festival on Saturday, May 30, 2026, there will be several how-to demonstrations offered by community members. The schedule and locations will be:

12:30 p.m. - Seasonal Produce

At the main festival site immediately following the Blueberry Cook-off, stick around and sample seasonal crops grown by the Young Urban Farmers of Athens Land Trust. Learn what conditions are needed to grow the plants successfully and learn about their cultural significance to the region.
Location: Holly Court (main festival site)

1 p.m. - Beer Brewing

Join Joe Hill in the time-honored tradition of fermentation. He will make a Kolsch and demonstrate the different variables that control the process. Joe is relatively new to brewing and invites more experienced brewers to show up and share what you know.
Location: 114 Southcreek Place (Escoe Estates)

2 p.m. - Basics of Moroccan Food

Hind Azami will demonstrate the basics of Moroccan cooking and make a simple appetizer you can recreate at home. “We will prepare olives and vegetables marinated in Moroccan spices and herbs, and explore a couple versatile Moroccan marinades,” she said.
Location: 445 Rivermont Road

3 p.m. - Yoga & Meditation Fundamentals

Curious about yoga or meditation? Stop by Kate McKenzie’s home studio to explore the basics, see the space and ask all your questions.
Location: 165 Wood Valley Lane

3 p.m. - Woodworking for the Garden

Justin Ebert will demonstrate how traditional woodworkers turn logs into usable lumber. Plus, he’ll show how to make gardening supplies with a few cheap tools and old firewood.
Location: 125 Holly Lane

4 p.m. - Time Banking

How do we build a hyper-local economy in our community? Building on last year’s launch of the Middle Oconee Hawthorne (MOH) Time Bank, Joe Lavine will facilitate a conversation about our community’s assets and demonstrate how to organize an Offers and Needs Market!
Location: 464 Forest Heights Drive.

The suggested donation for attending a demonstration is $5. You can leave cash in person, or donate online to support the festival.
